New Website, and Call for Entries for Small Works Show

We now have a new website at www.artistsoftodossantos.com. This new website will let us maintain much more information about what is happening and what is available in the Visual Arts in and around Todos Santos. The site will be bilingual (click the flag at the top right), but we do not yet have translations loaded - it is a work in progress! You will see a lot more information (and some Spanish content) as we get into the winter season. We welcome feedback, through the "contact us" form in the new website.

Maintenance of this interim solution will now cease, so please bookmark the new site.

"Wall of Saints" painting day, March 16, 2009

A community paint-out arranged by ARTS to fill the wall on Topete with images of Saints was an outstanding success. About 30 artists, assisted by approximately the same number of children from the Palapa Society Arts program and others from the community, worked through the morning with enthusiasm and enjoyment to create a set of images that reflects the variety of talents and styles within Todos Santos.

Thanks are due to the following people and businesses that sponsored this event - Miguel and Erika at Sherwyn Williams Paint and Accessories on Zaragoza, Rodrigo Guluarte at Romex, Comex and Mercado Guluarte. The police did a fine job of maintaining a safe environment for everyone, and volunteers, including members of the Palapa Society helped enormously with logistics. "Visions" Gallery (just opened!)

Visions, A Community Gallery, is part of Cafelix, the best coffe shop in Todos Santos. It is in the centre of town, on Benito Juarez, between Marquez de Leon and Hidalgo. Visions shows work of local artists in group shows, and features specific artists for limited engagements.

Our opening event on Jan 28th was a resounding success, with larger crowds attending than have been seen at such events for several years, and several sales of work from the show of six Todos Santos artists.

The show continues throughout the Todos Santos Arts Festival, so please drop in and see what the buzz is about!

ARTS is not intended to be exclusive. It is a forum that includes professional artists, whether they have their own gallery or not, amateur artists, those evolving their talents, and those who, while not actively involved in producing Visual Arts, have an interest in the area.We are at an early stage in our evolution. If the opportunity to participate and help excites you, we want to hear from you! You can contact us through artistasdetodossantos@gmail.com.

We want to tackle three areas of activity to further our joint goals:

Organizing a series of varied events that inform and educate those interested in the visual arts throughout the season. The events might include illustrated talks on topics around the production, promotion and sale of visual arts, presentations and demonstrations of techniques. The events would probably take place at various studios and homes around Todos Santos. Profits from events would be directed to programs that support the development of local children’s interest and capabilities in the visual arts field.

Providing access to a community gallery, staffed by knowledgeable ARTS volunteers, that displays and sells work produced by artists in the Todos Santos area.

Creating and maintaining a website that details a calendar of events (ARTS sponsored and others), a listing of local artists, and other information of use to those who have an interest in the visual arts in the Todos Santos area.
